Most of us know what a newsletter is. We get them in our inbox every day, because we subscribed to it some way, often even without knowing it!
And every time we enter a website a window pops up asking us if we’d like to their particular newsletter.
The official definition of a newsletter is this: ” a written report, issued periodically, typically by a business, institution or other organization that presents information and news to people with a specific interest or subject”
And that’s basically what it is. A written sort of letter that enters our inbox on a regularly basis with some kind of information the sender wants us to get.
Having a newsletter seems a must and everybody offers it, whether or not they write them regularly. They KNOW they just need it. And if they get around to actually doing them, do they know how to make them interesting and get the attention they deserve?
Well, we find that not very often.
Usually, what most business owners call newsletters are adverts and promotions of their products or services, with very little value attached to them.
However, us entrepreneurs we’d rather call it a personal newsletter, because that’s what it should be.
Who actually cares to read a report of some dull subject that is not in our interest or some information that the sender finds of utmost importance, but we really don’t care about? Or get spammed by tons of promotions every day?
Those were our thoughts and experience of newsletters. Booooring!
That was until we realized what a personal newsletter CAN be. And that is “Personal”
A newsletter that is written, not by a marketing specialist or a copywriter, but by a person just like yourself. A person you can relate to, because they think and feel just like you. Who can make you feel that we are not that different from one another. Who sends you tips and tricks instead of promotional material or “last hour offers”.
And this is, in our opinion, what a REAL newsletter is. A letter loaded with value and real content, where you can almost see and hear the person who writes it.
We’ve read the most amazing newsletters from incredible marketers that really know how to grab your attention and capture you interest.
They make you feel you know them by giving you insights into their life. They can take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride or a quiet stroll through their daily doings and whereabouts.
And sometimes often, they drop a casual comment on some new product or course they are launching, just in case you might want to take a peep.
And that’s what a newsletter really is supposed to be. A means to make relations with people that don’t even know you. To get them to know, like and trust you.
And when the time comes and they need what you have, they’ll happily content with what they’ve read, click on that link, take a peep and most likely buy from YOU and not “the other guy”.
That’s a newsletter. And it can be a very powerful tool, when you do it the right way.
